Between China and the western world lies a world of difference. Chinese are patient, do not give up easily and like bamboo are flexible too. Chinese appreciate the common good in favour of the individual and attach great importance to sound relationships with others. We in the West like to conduct our business in a dynamic and speedy fashion, are goal oriented, analytical and businesslike. We tend to put a higher value on the individual than the group. And, we hold trust in high esteem, but rely more on checks and balances.
Differences, however, should not pose any obstacles. Certainly as long as we are able to recognise and accept them. Indeed - by nature, men are nearly alike; by practice, they get to be wide apart. That’s what Chinese philosopher Confucius said in the sixth century BC.
